A brief history in Merlin…..
It all started in the swinging ‘60s with one man’s fascination with typewriters. But that man, Derek Clark, had bigger things in mind.
Employed by Dinwiddies of Dumfries as a typewriter mechanic by day and performing as a rock and roll star by night Derek always had an ambition to own his own company. In the mid ‘70s when Dinwiddies were bought over Derek took the opportunity to purchase shares in an existing office stationery supplier.
By combining Derek’s knowledge of office equipment and an existing office stationery customer base they quickly grew in strength and size providing everything an office could need throughout Dumfries & Galloway.
In the late ‘80s a fresh faced young fellow called Keith Woods joined the service team. Straight out of school and eager to learn he’s still there 30 odd years later. Older, wiser but maybe not so fresh faced.
The early ‘90s brought about some major changes for Derek and his team. The acquisition of a competitor in Carlisle just as the office world was moving away from word processors to PC’s and with still a desire to wholly own his own company Derek struck out on his own and started Merlin Office Equipment. Same familiar faces but now Derek could drive things forward his own way.
In late 2012 Merlin Office Equipment became Merlin Office Limited and is steered by Derek and his wife Helen.
